It's time to do a little catch up with photos that we have been taking in the class!
In December we made a sugar solution and then waited for sugar crystals to form.

Again in December, on our "crazy clothes day", we decorated a gingerbread train, and ate it the next day!
In January we did an experiment in science to determine what would make ice melt the fastest. It was a very interesting experiment....we were so involved we forgot to take many pictures!
In February we did another experiment with ice, this time we used a "blubber mitt" to see how fat insulates and makes it possible for animals to live in cold water. We were all able to hold our hands in the icy water for a longer time when we were using the "blubber (lard) mitt".
In our art class in February we looked at Van Gogh's painting "Starry Night" and then experimented with our own colour swirls.
In science, before March Break, we were beginning to learn about "Simple Machines". We started by learning about levers. Here are photos of us discovering how hammers make work easier. Many student also enjoyed hammering in the nails ...we have some budding carpenters!
In art this week we looked at some William Wegman photos like this one...
We then made our own animal/human figures using a Grumpy Cat photo from the internet. You can see the real Grumpy Cat on his very own web page at http://www.grumpycats.com/
Here are some of the results of our own Grumpy Cat Art:

In cooking this week we made, and enjoyed eating, some grilled cheese sandwiches, as you can see from our photos:
Last but not least, today we continued with our experiments in science with Simple Machines. The students all used a gear set from a science kit to create their our moving gears. We also explored how we see gears in everyday life, in bicycles and can openers, etc.
